Upgrade question (NT 4.0 to Win 2003)

L

Lamar Thomas

Hi everyone,

We are running a Windows NT 4.0 domain with a PDC and a BDC (WinNT 4.0 w/sp
6a). I have two new servers that will replace the old NT domain
controllers. The new servers will be running Windows 2003 Server and AD.
Anyone know of any white papers from Microsoft about moving from NT 4.0 to
2003 Server?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Lamar,

For detailed information about how best to move from a NT 4.0 domain
structure to a Windows Server 2003 Active Directory platform I highly
recommend reading the Windows Server 2003 Deployment Guide chapter titled
"Upgrading Windows NT 4.0 Domains to Windows Server 2003 Active Directory".
loyguide/dssbe_upnt_overview.asp)

It should have most of the information you will need to get your project
started on the right foot. If you need additional information then you might
try reviewing the "Migrating Windows NT Server 4.0 Domains to Windows Server
2003 Active Directory" white paper up on
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/evaluation/whyupgrade/nt4/nt4domtoad.mspx.
