Hi all,

I am unable to start or stop any service : I have an error 1053.

I read many kb articles, but none of them help me.

I am also unable to do a windowsupdate or install a msi package because
""windows installer" won't start.
Of course it is in manual. Also, I am not able to change the startup with
"automatic" or even "disabled". The mmc hang without any error.

No error in the event.

The computer is a DC of our domain.
The last time I use windowsupdate was in july, the 15 and everythings was ok.

I have the same problem with another DC. But for other DC, no problem. They
are all with the same settings, were windowsupdated ;-) at the same date and
no change were done.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

You haven't by any chance PowerChute 6.x UPS software (APC) installed
on the computer?

If so, upgrade it to v7 or uninstall it.

PowerChute 6.x cases a lot of issues, much more than what is described
here:

PowerChute Business Edition - Customers Using 6.x Must Upgrade to 7.x
due to Java Runtime Environment expiration
http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=7202

This is how you can disable the PowerChute service if you are unable to
uninstall it:

Start Regedit.exe

Locate the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\APCPBESERVER
Set the "Start" value to 4 (means disabled)

Locate the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\APCPBEAGENT
Set the "Start" value to 4 (means disabled)

Reboot the computer.

Torgeir

thank for the answers.

I already found the answer into another post and I can tell you that it is
now ok for me.
It was APC 6.xx that make the system out.

Ps : sorry for my english

Cedric
