Error 1053: Could not start the Print Spooler

My PC recently install updates to Windows XP Pro Ver 2002 Service Pack 2. I
now cannot print and receive Error 1053: Could not start the Print Spooler
service on Local Computer: Error 1053: The service did not respond to the
start or control request in a timely fashion. I have read suggestion to check
Admin Tools/Services and ensure Print Spooler/ RPC (both) are set to
automatic. I also click on Start but I still receive the error. This fault
started after auto updates were installed, so I assume the fault is due to
the updates. I checked, Open: eventvwr.msc and the following errors appeared
in Application Error Records: ! (in yellow) Userenv adn Warning MsiInstaller,
X (red) Error svchost.exe, X (red Application Error. Under System, !(yellow)
W32Time, Error Service Control Manager.

Please help.

Thanks

I've not seen this effect fromm these updates, but you are on a different
service pack than the machines I work with, and you may have a different
printer as well.

These groups are intended to support Windows Defender--they aren't the right
place to go for this kind of help.

I would recommend that you call Microsoft directly about this issue.

Microsoft has free support for issues with security patches worldwide. In
the U.S. or Canada, call 1-866-pcsafety and ask for the free help with
security patch related issues.

Elsewhere, there may not be toll-free, but the help will be.
