Windows XP Proffesinal service start error 1053



I installed Kaspersky Antivirus on my machine(the installation
completed succesfully) but the antivirus service does not start. When I try
to start it manually from the services manager it returns this error: "Error
1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely
fashion.". The same happens when I try to install Eset NOD 32. I had these
viruses earlier on my machine: "Trojan-PSW.Win32.OnLineGames.abah", "
Trojan.Win32.Agent.kiu". Now the machine is clean but I think the malfunction
is a result of the virus actions.
What to do to solve this?
