How to stop telephony service?

B

Brett

I'm trying to stop the telephony service on XP Pro and receive this error:

Could not stop the Telephony service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a
timely fashion.

Is there a way to stop the service? I have cable Internet. Why would I
need telephony?

Thanks,
Brett

Disable it. Then reboot and it won't start.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | OK |
Scroll down to and double click: Telephony |
In the Startup Type field, select Disabled | Apply | OK |
Close Services | After you restart your machine it will not start and will
stay disabled.
