Telephony Service Will Not Start

After entering Run services.msc, I right-clicked on Telephony, and
left-clicked Properties; with Start-up type set to Manual I clicked the Start
button. Instead of starting error message 1053 appeared. The message said,
the service did not respond to the service request in timely fashion.

I checked to see if the services on which Telephony depends were running,
and both Plug-N-Play and RPC had started.

Next I entered the path to the executable program in Windows Explorer. I
found svchost.exe in C:\WINDOWS\System32, but the path also had a suffix -k
tapisrv, so I performed a search for tapisrv and found tapisrv.dll in
C:WINDOWS/System32.

Next I searched the Registry for svchost, tapisrv and found it in
HKEY_USERS, under AppEvents, Software, Microsoft, Search Assistant, ACMru,
5603, 002.

Summary: I am not sure, but it appears that: (1) The Telephony Service is
configured correctly. (2) The services it depends on have started. (3) Its
files are in the right places. (4) The Registry provides the necessary
direction to the files. Please advise if I am right or wrong.

If the configuration is OK why does Telephony start? What should I do next?

Try this:
Open a run command and type in:
net stop tas click [Ok]
Reboot your computer and then open the run command and type in:
net start tas click [Ok]
Does it start, make sure the Plug and Play and the RPC Started Auto.
Also on the properties of telephony click on Log on and make sure the Local
Account radio Button been checked.

FIX: You receive an "Error 1053: The service did not respond
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839174

If the above didn't help try this command:
sfc /scannow

Hi Nass,

I appreciate your help.

I ran net stop tas, rebooted and performed the net start tas command.
Telephony did not start; local was checked and PnP and RPC both started.

I ran sfc/scannow , put my system disk in the CD drive and watched it
verified the hidden files. Then I rebooted. Telephony still did not start.
When I clicked on the Telephony Start button, I got error message 1053.

Event Viewer – System displays the following error messages:
7000 Telephony service failed to respond to start request
7001 Remote Access Control Mgr failed to start because t depends on Telephony
7009 Timeout waiting for Telephony
7024 Routing and Remote Access terminated
1060 Application Popup

The description for 1060: \SystemRoot\Sys\Wow64\Drivers\mdc8021x.sys has
been blocked from loading due to icompatability with nthis system; and in the
detail it said file name ws03res.dll

In adition to the error messages in Event Viewer - System, Event Viewer -
Applications has a Warning Category Ci Service. The IISADMIN service is not
available, so virtual roots cannot be indexed

Thank you for help.
