Win2K Pro - Blank Screen after login

An associate tried to use a disk with screen savers on it and the CD caused "fatal" errors on her machine. Best that we can recall, an error message to the effect of "Disk Boot Error" showed up. I restarted her machine. After that, we see Windows start up and we can login, but we cannot see any icons or the start menu on her desktop. Her hard drive can still be accessed remotely. We can access the Task Manager, but that's it.

I tried going to the "Last Known Good Configuration" and "Safe Mode", but in both cases still couldn't access icons or the start menu on her machine.

Any suggestions?

Check that explorer.exe is the default shell to start. Look at the Reg_Sz
string value of;
"Shell"="Explorer.exe"
found at
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Else these may help you.
