Win2k Fax Service

I've never been able to use this service as it always hangs once I've
dialed up a fax number through Word. All the stages of the wizard come
up ok, but once I click on 'Finish' the printer icon shows up
immediately in the taskbar, but when I right click it nothing is shown
in the 'jobs pending' column, and my modem fails to click into action.

I have a data, fax modem, which works fine in every other respect
(connecting to the internet). If I use Supervoice software instead to
deliver a fax, that is sent without a hitch using Word. So what is the
problem with MS fax service?

It is not clear how exactly you initiate the transmission
of your fax. I also suggest that you try sending a fax from
other applications, e.g. from Notepad.exe.

Lastly you could try re-installing the fax service. Click Start /
Run / %windir%\inf, right-click faxsetup.inf and click Install.

Yes, it's curious.

For Word I simply use File/Print, then choose 'Fax' as the printer
option. Fax Service seems to work with Wordpad so far without a problem.
When using Word 97 (I don't have a more recent version), nothing is
shown in pending jobs when I right click the fax printer icon, and the
icon soon disappears from the system tray soon after I finish the
wizard. I always use the send 'Now' option.

However I've since discovered that when I reboot the computer, then the
list of pending Word faxes are displayed and waiting to send off just as
booting is completed. Very odd!

Your problem appears to be more related to Word 97 than to
the fax service. Try some additional applications and repost in
an MS Word / MS Office newsgroup.

Actually I bet the problem is the other softwares Service running. Turn
that off then try to use the Windows 2000 Fax service. In other words both
can not have started. Have one off while the other has started.
