Win XP won't connect to Wireless using WEP?

This Win XP laptop will connect to the wireless network as long as I don't
use WEP security. If I use any WEP security, while the signal strength shows
strong and the speed shows relatively fast (11 Mbps), the status shows
"little or no connectivity", and network apps (Explorer, etc.) can't connect
to the 'net. DHCP and NAT are enabled in the AP. Another laptop (a Mac) has
no trouble with WEP.

Searching Microsoft's web site came up with a problem that seems similar to
this one. The solution? To uninstall the security update. But this "fix" is
incorporated into SP2 that was applied to XP on this laptop several months
ago. In order to fix the trouble, do I now uninstall SP2?

Ideas?

Dell Inspiron 600M; built-in Dell Truemobile 1300 WLAN card;
Win XP Pro (SP2)

Thanks,

Please, no "Go Google this" replies. I wouldn't
ask a question here if I hadn't done that already.

If it is related to the security update of SP2 then you can troubleshoot by
going into your 'Services' scrolling through the list to find Security
Center and setting it to 'Disabled'. Reboot the system and then see if your
problem remains. If you still have issues using the WEP then it is probably
not related to the SP2 security updates.

Have you checked the card manufactures site for any updates and/or patches?
