Wireless connection unstable after enabling WEP

Okay this has been driving me insane for a couple of days
now. I use a wireless router to get onto the internet
with my laptop and access a print server. Worked fine.
Did a recent windows update and when all of a sudden I
was prompted that my wireless connection is not
secure... No problem I'll just enable the WEP. Double
checked all of the settings at 128 encyption the
connection kept disconnecting after five minutes or
so... Tried 64 encryption - same thing... Funny thing
is that my old laptop running ME was fine with the
changes at both 128 and 64. So now I am back to no
encryption. Any help?

I had a similar problem where the wireless network
disconnected every 5 minutes when using a Belkin USB
wireless adapator. I used it with 128 bit encription and
didn'y think to turn this off. After a couple of weeks
of loading updates, fiddling and getting nowhere,I took
it back to PC World and got my money back. I now use a
SiteCom adapter with no problems.

Hello J,
If you remove the recent updates will you system perform as it did before
the update?

Ever see a grown man cry? This is ridiculous. Removed
as many of the updates that I could from that day and I
thought everything was all right. Now same problem
again. So now I have a $3000 computer that is a piece of
crap because I downloaded recommended updates. I've
tried everything and there is no solution

Hello J,
If you removed the patches that you installed and the problem still exists
then it's highly unlikely that the patches contributed to the problem. I'd
suggest you contact MS support to get more help on this issue.
