128 bit WEP encryption problem with XP media center

I've searched threads and articles all afternoon, none really answer this
problem-

My laptop would not access the internet through my home wireless router when
set at 128 bit WEP encryption. It works fine at 64bit, and when connected
with a cable directly to the router.

Now, I am having the same problem with my in-laws router. I am connected to
the network at 128 bit WEP encryption, but internet pages will not load. Are
there any settings on my computer that I can adjust to make 128 bit
encryption work? Their laptop is running Xp and connects to the internet
fine. I don't want to step on toes by asking them to change their encryption
to 64 bit to accomodate me. Any suggestions?
