WEP 128 bit encryption problem

Robert

I have a HP Pavillion ZE5749cl with a LAN Express
wireless adapter running on Windows XP Home. I have a
connection established to a Belkin wireless router which
is capable of WPA or WEP 64-bit or WEP 128-bit
encryption. I am stuck using the 64-bit encryption
because I cannot seem to find a way to type in all 26
characters for 128-bit encryption into the HP notebook's
network adapter configuration menus. The network key
field only allows 24 characters. I have followed the
Knowledge base article 826942 which I thought might
correct this problem but it did not. Any ideas? Also,
HP could not tell me what vendor makes the LAN Express
wireless adapters to see if I can update the firmware,
any ideas on this?
Thanks.

Hi, Robert -

The WiFi configuration options in Windows XP are largely
based on the OS querying the hardware to determine its
capabilities. If the configuration menu won't accept 26
characters it's likely the hardware doesn't support an
encryption key that long. I've had the same problem with
Gateway laptops and am still working on a solution.

Sorry I didn't have a better answer but my only
suggestion is to contact HP.
