I have had for some time start-up problems whereby during the PC start-up it
never starts without going through a screen where it says "We apologise for
inconvenience but Windows did not start successfully.." and gives some
options including Start-up in safe mode and Start-up normally. Then it
counts down to Start-up normally and then it starts up. When I check Event
viewer I get exactly what is described in this link:
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-97774.php . Unfortunately there was
no answer offered. I would like to add that I had hard drive replaced and
Windows reinstalled but that made no difference.
Any suggestion how to find and solve this problem would be appreciated

You mention a "machine_check" error which may as well result from bad RAM or
a overclocked/overheated or flakey CPU. Have a look for available bios
updates as well, as they might fix a microcode problem.
