XP starts with Log on screen

It did not do this before but now for some reason XP starts with a log on
screen rather than going straight into my desktop. I have not set any
passwords and I am the only user. I would prefer it to go to the desktop
direct.
Thanks

Will, I am not sure if you are still watching this thread but
it seems to be coming back. When I do the change in Tweak UI it starts up
once directly into the desktop but the next time it does not -:(

Hi

I've just checked it here and the settings hold. Try this - Control
Panel>User Accounts - 'Change the way users log on or off'.

Hmm, options Use the welcome screen and Use the fast switching
are ticked as they are on my Laptop which behaves "normally".
When I remove ticks, it behaves differently in that there appear
small Shutdown and Log On windows, but I still have to make a selection
to get to the desktop

However I noticed one new thing. Apart from the usual Owner
and Guest users there is now a new "user" :
ASP.NET Machine A...
Limited account
Password protected

I have installed ASP.NET framework because it is required for MS SyncToy
which I want to try and this must have appeared as a consequence.
I wonder if that could have something to do with my "problem".

I see, so that seems to be the culprit. I shall decide later whether
I shall live with it as it is or try to follow the remedial advise given
in the link you sent me. I also hope I can uninstall the framework
if I decided not to use SyncToy after all.
Thanks very much your help

..NET Framework can be uninstalled via Add/Remove Programs - however there
are a lot more programs needing it to be installed so as to work. If you
did uninstall it, you may find other programs not working.

I have not uninstalled it yet but as I installed it only a few days back
only
for SyncToy and installed nothing since it should not be needed for any
other
programmes that are currently on my PC.
Since I know now what is causing this extra login step I may well decide to
live with it
