Windows Won't Log On

Steve

After downloading and installing the latest Windows XP Updates, I restarted
the computer. When I attempt to log into my user name, Windows starts
loading my personal settings, pauses, logs me out and saves my settings. I
tried going in in safe mode and the same thing happens. Any suggestions on
how to get past this? The computer did not come with any installation disks
or recovery disks. Thanks

Give the make and model of PC. Someone may be able to give you more help.
There may be a restore partition? Have you looked in your manual about
'how to restore'?

Tried that and no luck, still wont log in. And safe mode doesn't work
either. I am effectively pulling my hair out here! Thanks for the
suggestion though.

well, there is an
old trick and maybe
it might help.

after selecting the
option to boot normally
from the menu,

hold down the left shift
key and don't let go
until the desktop begins
appearing.

its an old trick and it
may not work, since
safemode is corrupted
to.

but worth a try.

also, retry the trick
using the left ctrl key
just in case its not
the shift key.

I will certainly try that! At this point I'll stand on my head if that would
work!

Thanks for the suggestion.
