win XP pro installation problem.

Hi, I've installed win 98 SE on my 40 gig maxtor HD, with
out any problems. When I try to install win XP pro, the
installation freezes when copying the file driver.cab. I
formatted the drive and I'm starting with a fresh 40 gig
disk. What seems to be the problem? nay help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks

Disconnect all devices such as printer and scanners until XP
is installed.

I have seen this problem when the system cd device is not
capable of copying large files (often an old cd-rom
device) and also if the cd is a burned copy and not an
original. Even some of the newer (Creative 52X for
example) cd-rom devices have this problem.

You might wish to try a newer cd rom device for the
install and then after the install has completed you can
move back to the original cd-rom device.

hope this helps,

Ropey
