Safe mode works fine.
Ad aware, spy bot, anti virus all report clear.

Backup all your data, and perform a clean install of XP (delete and recreate
partitions)

I am running into the same exact problem. Safe Mode okay. Restore before
problem doesn't resolve issue. Removed all non-essential hardware (extra
data HDs, USB devices,...)

Thanks Rome,
Do you know what the cause is?
I've read many other posts saying people have done this (Reinstall) many
times and the problem reoccurs.
If all else fails the reinstall is the only way i suppose.

Yes, that was it, Ramesh. After posting the message, it struct that it
all happened on the same date around the same time. I figured that must
have had something to do with a virus so I checked Trendmicro's site today
and found that link. Man, that's pretty bad when an anti-virus company
sends out a "virus!"

No way... I almost reformatted my hard drive after spending the entire
Saturday resolving this issue. Thank you for your help!
