Win Media Player 10 - MP#

Is there a freeware codec to use with windows Media Player v10 so it will
rip to mp3?

It already does. Tools/Options/ Rip Music/Rip Settings/Format

Drop down box has mp3 as an option.

That's correct, however when you click on it you get a dialog box saying ''a
compatible mp3 encoder is not installed on your computer.'' They will be
glad to sell you what they call an MP3 Creation Pack. I tried putting a
copy of Lame dll in the folder but it didnt help.

Ah, sorry. It seems I have an encoder already installed from somewhere!
(running XP Pro). I have also used Audiograbber which is even more
configurable than Media Player.

Maybe someone has some other possibilities for MP 10.

Thanks... audiograbber is great. I was just disappointed that they
advertise Media Player 10 with mp3 but it isnt really there.

Series, you can encode tracks into .mp3 files by obtaining an MP3 encoder
pack from the MP3 Creation Plug-ins page.

they charge for the encoder packs.
i definitely have v10 but i get the message i entered above. i tried
reinstalling but it's no use. it cannot find the encoder.

I didnt pay or install anything clean install xpro sp1a then upgrade to
wmp10 and its there to be selected
