Will my OME XP CD do this???

Hi

Once, a while back I tried to repair XP Home with
the disc I got from the manufacture (OME).

It was the first time I had attempted it and I ended
up with 4 copies of the OS.

I am still having problems with XP.

My 2 questions;

Is the following correct?

I have discovered that if I insert my XP CD
it loads (without being booted from the CD drive).

XP is giving me the option to 'upgrade XP' which
will 'preserve' all my files, data and settings.

Q1) Can I safely go ahead with this option even though
my system has not booted from the CD ROM ?

Q2) Can I trust XP not to delete all my files ?
