can't do a parallel install

I've an Asus K8VSE board (Via chipset) with 2Gb of memory and a 3200+
AMD Athlon processor. It runs a legit copy of XP Pro with SP2. Hard
drives are 2 standard IDE drives and a SATA cd rom drive.

The problem: when booting from my XP installation cd (I wanted to do
a parallel install) I get a blue screen and a message saying windows
encountered a problem, and recommending that I check my hard drive for
viruses or file system problems. This happens just after the point at
which all setup drivers are loaded and 'starting windows' appears.

I've booted into command prompt and run chkdsk several times - no
problems reported. I've also booted with a Linux live cd - again, no
problems reported. And there are no signs of viruses - I run AVG Pro
checks regularly as well as Spybot, and no suspicious files have been
found.

My only thought is that it could be something to do with the SATA cd
drive - does XP setup handle SATA okay? Any other thoughts and
theories much appreciated....

check BIOS and any references to SATA

Disable any SATA option and retry. Obvioulsy do not turn off SATA
controller.

Give it a shot
