Hello,

I am having a problem connecting my handheld to wifi.

I have an HP iPAQ hx2795b.
Router is a Netgear DGN2000.

I have been connecting without a problem for quite a while but today it will not connect at all.
A message popped up which said " Cannot find IP address" or something close to that.
When I click on "Manager" it shows it is trying to connect and the following:

SSID : DGN2000
Encryption Status : TKIP
Access point : 30 46 9A 31 3E 88
IP Address : 0.0.0.0

As I mentioned it has been working fine up until today and I have not changed any settings at all.

Any help much appreciated,
Andrew.

Thats isn't a valid IP address. Have you got DHCP on?

Hello V_R and thanks for reply,

I'm not very technically minded, What is DHCP? How do I check or change it?

I am good at following instructions so if you could point me in the right direction on how to check DHCP I can do that.

However I am sure I have not changed any settings between last night (when it was working fine) and this morning.

Thanks again for taking the time to help.

Andrew.

Ok, lets start easy. :)

Have you tried simply rebooting the router? Try that, or just unplug it and plug it back in.

Ok - I switched the router off , unplugged it, left for 5 mins.

While it was off I also shut down the computer, unplugged it and left for 5 mins.

Switched the router back on, waited for all the lights (including the wireless one) to come on then switched the computer back on.

Tried connecting the ipaq but still the same , no IP address found/shown.

Andrew.

DHCP is basically when the router gives a connecting device an IP address. Which it seems is whats not happening here, hence your IPAQ not connecting..

I have no experience of using an IPAQ so cant say if ir what may be wrong on that end.

Have you changed anything on the IPAQ lately?
Do other WiFi devices connect ok?

Hello V_R,

Thanks again for your help.

I have just tried it again this morning and it connected fine.

I guess maybe it had a 24hr bug or something......

Andrew.
