Widows XP Desktop toolb ar not autohiding

I am being driven nuts by this one.

I'm using windows XP, and have my toolbar set to "auto hide the taskbar" and
"keep the taskbar on top of other windows". This works on my Win2K machine at
home. Here, the toolbar stays always up and always on top of other windows.
If I unclick the "auto hide" function, "apply" it, then recheck autohide and
apply it again, the toolbar recedes below the window -- until I use the curse
to bring it up and then it sticks again.

Is there any way to get the autohide function to work?

Thanks,

Joe

Similar problem. Microsoft Office toolbar set to autohide; on reboot have to
turn autohide off then on again before it works.

I have the same problem but found a 'workaround' to fix it.

* Ctrl+alt+del to open taskmanager
* Click the 'processes' tab
* Find and select explorer.exe and [End task]
* File > New task
* Enter 'Explorer.exe'
* Hit [Enter]

I am interested to learn about a permanent solution!
