Unmovable/ Unremovable Toolbar from Taskbar

Dear all:

A newsgroup search did not reveal any previous mention
of this subject, so I hope someone can address this issue
here.

You know how the Taskbar can display multiple toolbars
that are separated by resizable divisions (e.g., Address,
Links, Desktop, Windows Media Player)? Well, this
morning, when I turned on my computer, I found an unnamed
toolbar division on the Taskbar that randomly placed
itself between the Quickstart Menu and the
Taskpane/Notification Area. No header, nothing. When I
closed it, it would crash the Taskbar altogether. When
moved onto the desktop, it would just float there.

It's main function seems to echo/display any active
program/window. So, as a result, for everyone program
that I open (let's say, IE), then there would be two
icons -- one on the Taskbar (the normal one), and one on
this strange, disjointed Toolbar window thingy.

Now here's the kicker -- I docked this unnamed toolbar
to the side of the screen, and now I CAN'T MOVE IT OR
RESIZE IT at all. I've tried:

a) removing/unchecking all toolbars from the Taskbar;
b) locking/unlocking the Taskbar;
c) running a Norton virus scan (along with spyware
removal utilities)
d) setting/unsetting autohide, always on top, and other
toolbar options.

....all to no avail. So now, I have this extra pseudo-
taskbar-wannabe-toolbar hanging off the side of the
screen that duplicates the icons of active programs
displayed on the Taskbar.

Please advise,
-Alan
