Taskbar Notification Area

My taskbar notification area displays information about open programs when I
place my mouse pointer on a program; but, the information is hidden by the
taskbar itself. Only the uppermost program icon information can be viewed and
it's viewing area is limited by the taskbar. Lower placed icons are
displaying just the top most fringe of information so I can't read it at all.
I've had this happen on two separate XP desktops so far; I can't figure out
if this is a change I made by accident or if it's a toolbar glitch.
Thanks for any help! Jay

Hi Jay

Do you mean the tooltip seems to be behind the taskbar? If so, here's a
fix from MVP Kelly's site:

1. Click on Start Menu > Programs
2. Right-click on any program in the list and choose Sort by Name.
3. Repeat.

That should do it :) Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Nightowl! I'll try the Sort by Name fix next time this accessibility
problem occurs. As I said, it occurred on two XP-home desktops; I didn't
mention the problem survives Windows restarts. But, for now, it's disappeared
again; I'll report success/failure of the Sort by Name fix on next
occurrence.

For an true fix for this problem, please visit http://acquaviva.us/tooltipmanager/
This program will *prevent* this known Microsoft bug (http://
support.microsoft.com/kb/912650) from occuring. I got tired of
waiting for Microsoft to fix this annoying Tool Tip Manager will also
let you set the color and font for task bar tool tips, control the
various timers (initial display, auto-hide), or even selectively hide
them.

Well, it's good you found a fix that you like. For me, running an extra
program all the time seems overkill since the problem only occurs on my
machine about once every couple of months and takes just two seconds to
fix, thanks to Kelly's tip.

Thanks Nick and Nightowl! I'll monitor my three XP systems for this
problem. It's only happened on two so far and hasn't occured for over a week
now. Your's is a useful discussion for my problem and I'll post my results
when it happens again. If the thread's expired then I'll repost with relevant
info. thanks again - tipringretired
