Removing System Info from Taskbar

T

Teflon

XP Pro,SP3, IE8.

On the right hand side of the Taskbar, just to the left of the
Notification Area, there is a clickable entry labeled 'My Computer'
that will display the contents of the System C: drive. I would like
to remove this entry to increase the Taskbar's real estate.

It's probably a very simple click, but I don't find anything in
customizing the taskbar that is of any help.

Would appreciate someone telling me how can I turn that entry off.

Thank you.

I was right, it was VERY simple. Sorry to have bothered you all.

Oh, if anyone else is as dense as I am and would like to remove that
'My Computer' notation just to the left of the notification area, just
right click on an empty area of the Taskbar, Select 'Toolbars', and
unselect 'My Computer'. Voila, it's gone.

This reminded me of a banner I saw once in an office. It said
something like:

"Please solve your problem before asking us for help. That way, we may
serve you better."

When all else fails, RTFM.

Manual? What manual? There's a manual? I didn't get any frigging
manual. Who took my manual?

Sigh, my first contributed 'solve' (even if it was for my own problem)
and I get dinged.

At least I entered the OS & IE versions this time.

BTW, my grandson showed me the solution, and yes, I did try Google
before I asked the question.

Thanks for responding?

Lacking a manual, which aren't given out with copies of XP, you could
always consult your XP's "Help and Support Center" (for any future problems
you may run into).

It is a quite extensive interface to the Windows Help files, plus, if you
are connected to the internet when you start the application, whatever you
type in the "search" box is also searched for online in the Microsoft
Knowledge Base as well.

You should find a link to the Help and Support Center on your XP Start
Menu.

P.S. If the "Help" link not present on your Start Menu.;
Right-click with your mouse on the Start Button and choose "Properties" -
then click on the "Customize" button and, under the "Advanced" tab, place a
checkmark in the box marked "Help and Support" in the Start menu items
section. This is only for the XP-style Start Menu as the "Help and
Support" link is always shown on the Classic Start Menu.

Thanks Tim, I do know about (and use) XP's Help function, though I did
not find that particular info when I looked, so I asked - and then
along came Jones.

My 'no manual' response was just a facetious poke-back at those who
had dinged me for asking and then answering my own question. I
probably shouldn't have posted the solution and just let another
novice come along and pick that low-hanging fruit.

As I've learned several times in the past, subtle humor does not play
well on the Internet.
