Why would I have problems publishing in FrontPage?

FP does not allow me to publish updates. When I try, it immediately goes
into an endless "processing" cycle without anything happening? Anyone ever
had a similar experience, and if so, what was you fix?

Does your server have FP extensions installed and working?
How big is the website?
Are you using shared border or includes?
What version of FP are you using?

Crash,

My web hosting company does accept FP extensions and they are working. The
site has six pages and the properties tab said the file is 8.56 MB. Can't
believe that. I must confess to not knowing what you meam by shared border
or includes, so I can't answer that one. I am using FP 2002.

The 8.56 MB includes all your media files (images, sounds, movies, etc) used by the html 6 pages
- are any of them over 1 MB in size

Include pages....shared borders - you've never heard of them? Look them up
in the Help file....

They are quite useful when you want to repeat common content on each or many
pages eg a menu or footer, header etc.
so you then only have *one* file to update if changes are made, and the
changes occur to that common content on *all* your pages that use it.

Anyway, the point Rob Giordano is making is features like shared borders and
includes are a bit buggy and could be causing problems. The size of the
site (you say it is 8.5 megs) that's pretty big....but even still it takes a
while to compile all the pages and upload them, so I'd be patient.

In the mean time, try emptying your temp folders and web cache for frontpage
and IE (or your browser of choice). - do this in the usual manner with the
Disk Clean up tool or through the Options in your browser. There's a
utility on www.95isalive.com called "FPCleaner" which cleans up the temp
folders for you.

Thanks, Andrew. I'll give it a try.
