Why won't my MS Excel files open from Explorer.

I try to open Eexcel files from shortcuts or from explorer.
When I click on the files, they initialize Excel, but the actual files don't
open.
Sometimes a "Windows can't find the file" message pops up, and sometimes
Excel just goes into the "ready" mode. Then I have to go through Excel to
find thefile and open it.
 
Try Tools / Options / General / Uncheck 'Ignore Other Applications'
