Why is outlook downloading the same email numerous times?

I set up outlook to retrieve my email from charter.net. I check my charter
email and see that I have 25 emails than I go into outlook and send / receive
and I get 25 times 5 or more sometimes. I have no idea why it is doing this.
If you can help please I would really appreciate it. I am using windows vista
and have never had any problems with either until now. I also have outlook
set to delete the message's from my charter.net after downloading.
