Why has my Winxp startup with just the basic devices ans services

The msconfig shows normal startup. It shows no restore date just the one today.
So I can do a restore.
Explorer and Mcafee dosn't work.

Restart in Safe Mode and run McAfee.

Thanks, I also lost the help and support , networking and Mcafee. The same
in safe mode.
