I'm having difficulty in disabling certain startup items. I do the
following....
1. Start->Run and enter 'msconfig' and click OK.
2. System Configuration Utility window comes up
with the General tab visible, with the
Normal Startup radio button highlighted. I
click on the Startup tab.
3. I see the list of Startup items I want to
disable, and they're all checked. I uncheck
each of them, then click on Apply and then
click on Close.
4. I get a Messagebox stating that I must restart
for the changes to take effect, and I choose
Exit Without Restart.
5. I do (1) again.
6. This time the System Configuration Utility
window shows the radio button for Selective
Startup. The subelements (Process SYSTEM.INI
file, Process WIN.INI File, Load System Services
are checked. Load Startup Items has a green box
inside the checkbox, and the Use Original BOOT.INI
radio button is in effect.
If I reboot with this configuration, I'm told
at startup that Selective Startup is in effect
and that all of the startup commands will be
executed. If I go back to MSCONFIG and
uncheck the Load Startup Items, and then select
the Normal Startup radio button, I can go back
to the Startup tab and I see all the startup
items checked again, including the ones I unchecked.
So how do I truly disable these startup items?
