I have office 2003 basic installed on my computer. Since I did a reinstall of
my windows and office products, I have been getting an error when outlook
tries to download mail. When I access the mail account settings I find that
somehow my information is changed. Under the pop setting it will change from
pop.gmail.com to localhost and the logon information changes my user name
from desal03 to desal03/pop.gmail.com. Even if I change everything back, it
will change to the way I just described after a restart of anytype. What is
happening?

Your antivirus program is causing that. Disable email scanning.
