Why does pop3 setting always change to 'localhost'?

Every time I restart my computer, the pop3 setting changes to 'localhost' and
what I had set as the pop3 setting has been moved to after the user name. Any
ideas what I can do? I am using Outlook 2002 and have downloaded all updates
that the automatic update system says I should have.

It means that you have an internet security related product (e.g. antivirus,
antispam, firewall, .etc) installed that can scan/protect e-mail in
realtime.

And which runs as a normal proxy that needs to chain itself in the path
for your e-mail (as opposed to running as a transparent proxy that won't
alter your e-mail account settings).
