Why didn't "date modified" change??

This is probably not the right ng, but I know there are a bunch of
smart people in here and I can't figure where I should ask this question.

I was at a friend's house (computer illiterate) and she had just gotten
a Lacie backup external hard drive.

I showed her how to simply drag and drop her My Documents and another
important folder to Lacie. Then I showed her how to go to My Computer
and look inside Lacie to see the folders and see that they had been copied
over.

Yesterday, I was back over and she showed me a problem. She wanted to
update her backup. So she did a drag and drop of the same folder. I
expected
to see a dialog box that said the folder was being replaced with a folder of
same name. That didn't happen. Plus, the Date Modified of the folders (in
detailed view) didn't change. It did appear that inside the folders, the
files were
updated.

Any ideas as to why we didn't get a dialog box saying folder was being
replaced
and why the date modified didn't change???????????

Thanks,
Helen

I believe that is a setting within lacie to either prompt or to overwrite
automatically.(and many other features as well)

And I don't believe the date modified on a folder does change despite
new files being added. It just shows the date it was created, really.
