Where is or how do I install recovery console for XP Home.I have a
computer that I want to format C drive and re install XP Home but there
is no floppy drive and the cd rom won't boot the re install cd. The cd
rom may be defective. If I put the cd in the r/w drive it states it can't
install because a newer version is installed namely sp2. The cd is XP
Home Sp1a.

Hi,

First, having the Recovery Console installed would not help you, nor is the
CD defective - the message you are seeing is normal. You would need to do
one of the following:

1) Slipstream the WinXP Home SP1A disk with the SP2 files:
http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm

2) Do a clean installation with the SP1A disk. This results in the loss of
all files currently on the system.

I am not at computer but I remember that the area for install was greyed
out. So I couldn't do anything. i am going there tomorrow. I was
wonering if I install a cheap floppy I could use home install disks
maybe or a ME boot disks and use fdisk.
