hi, i want to install the recovery console on xp home sp2 ive been advised to
install it on the harddrive as a start up option so its there if i ever need.
i dident get a xp cd with my purchase just the reload cd i have the I386
folder but are unsure how to go about this ive read about the 6 floppys also
ive come across this command
[ C:\WINDOWS\I386\WINNT32.EXE /cmdcons ] but im not sure about it. there is
a virus/rootkit in the wild that effects the MBR, i would apreciate any help
& insight on installing recovery console without a xp cd.

yeh, the recovery console can
be added to the boot up menu
which will then provide you
with the option to either boot
into windows or into the recovery
console.

i have it installed on all my computers
because it is an added benefit and tool.

----------------------

it will install itself by running the
file that is located in your 386 folder.

here are the instructions.

To use the page "db" suggested:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654

If "winnt32.exe" is where you say it is,
C:\WINDOWS\I386\WINNT32.EXE ,(go there in Explorer, and verify)
then skip step 1, and type -
C:\WINDOWS\I386\WINNT32.EXE /cmdcons
in the Run box instead of what it says in step 3.
Follow remaining directions.
