Where did my CD drives go???

One day my computer stopped recognizing that I have two cd-drives. A CD/DVD drive and a CDRW drive. I cant figure out why it thinks they aren't there! I was able to fix it temporarily for a few days but I cant remember how. Any thoughts?
 
What programs/software did you install before this happened?
 
The device's driver may have been corrupted or deleted.

To reinstall the driver, go to Windows' Control Panel by clicking on Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
Click on the System icon, then on the Device Manager tab.
Look for the reference to CD-ROM devices, and click on the plus sign to the left of the line.
A new line, listing your CD player, will open. Highlight the reference to your device.
Click on the Remove button. Answer "yes" when Windows asks whether you are sure you want to do so.
Exit Windows, shut down and reboot the computer.

Windows should spot the drive and react as if it had just been added.

Tried that

I haven't installed anything. They just disappeared. And... I've tried the "device control settings"... the CD drives aren't there either!
 
Are they seen in the BIOS?

Are they on the same cable ... if so disconect one drive.

:)
