when minimized outlook looses its program button in start bar

Hello,

It is difficult to be sure the program is on if when I minimize the screen
for Outlook the button on the task bar disappears... I have to hit the icon
like I was opening the program to discover if it is open. Does anyone have
any ideas?
Thanks

Microsoft Office 2003
Windows XP

This is Outlook's plain retarded "Hide when Minimized" feature. Right-click
on the icon in the tray (next to the clock) and uncheck the option.

P.S.
The intent of the feature is good.... and has been sorely needed for 9
years. But it should work the way all other apps that make use of the "tray"
(next to the clock) do it (such as Instant Messenger apps). The feature
should be named "*Keep Outlook Running in the Background*" and minimizing
the window should NOT be the trigger (this is plain inconsistent and
stupid). Instant Messenger (Windows Messenger, MSN Messenger, Yahoo
Messenger, AIM, etc) and MANY other apps got it right. I don't know what the
Outlook team is smoking.

Same as the writer of the Thunderbird Extension "Minimize to Systray" I
should think. What's wrong with it? Seems perfectly OK to me.......

Funny how "systray" has stuck, despite MS repeatedly saying "that's not what
that area is called!"
And, for a free extension (that probably has to do it that way as a
"workaround"), that's fine. But for a multi-hundred dollar program...
Outlook should follow established guidelines and conventions... or not
implement the feature at all.
