I installed a program that would find duplictaes in Contact lis of outlook
XP. It was a poor program. I unistalled it using Control Panel. Since then
when I open Excel, immediatley and automatically several files that are free
hand, bit map...opens up in unreadable (and some readable). I used Detect and
reapir. It worked. a file was missing or corrupt.

I had to go back to an earlier restore point for other reasons. As soon as I
did Excel did go back to opening these files at start up. I unistall and
reinstall Office. No change. The files that opens are _INST321.EX_,
Setup.LID, SETUP.INI, SETUP.BMP, OS.DAT, myname Book1.xls, lang.dat,
data1.hdr, data1.cab, data. tag, my company Logo 12-5-2004. FH11.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

You've got something in your XLStart folder, or you've designated the wrong
folder as your alternate XLStart folder. Search for the folder on your
machine, and remove anything from it that doesn't belong, or go to
Tools-Options, General tab, and remove the Alternate location.
