what to save?

I want to install windows xp. Currently running win. 98
se. I'm afraid that I will lose important info. How should
I go about saving my files before I download XP? Please
help, I'm lost.

save everything you can not re-create.
data files....favorites....backups....
anything you have on cd like programs or games that can
be reloaded do not save.
