What Programs are Running?

After my XP professional system is idle for a while I
must login. When I do, a message beneath the login
textbox says "1 Program Running." After logging in I
can't find any running programs. In the past the message
simply said, "Logged in." How can I check my system for
a list of running programs? I'm most curious about what
XP knows.

Thanks to LostSoul and Nutcase; I had stumbled over the
Task Manager some time back, but lost my way. Before
making my post, I searched through Windows Help. I
used "program" among other key words and got no where.
After your assistance I searched on "application" found
more Task Manager information. Right-clicking on an
empty spot on the Start Bar brings up a menu that
includes the Task Manager. Thanks again for the kick
start.
