1 program running

Computer is Windows XP Professional, fully updated, SP3 version. For some
reason at the log-on screen it indicates there is a program running (vs. a
profile simply being "logged on"), when there is none. I've scanned with a
number of tools, reviewed task manager and MS Config, even installed a
program that provides much more detail than task manager in an effort to
discover if something is running. CPU usage is also nominal. There is
nothing. The only hint I might have is that the beginning of this "program
running" condition seems to have begun when I updated the ATI video card
driver to include the ATI "Catalyst Control Center". I haven't found anything
in the AMD/ATI knowledgebase yet, has anyone else experienced this? Thanks.

If you want to dig deeper:
Try Autoruns from the MS Windows SysInternals site:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

AutoRuns will show/list all apps/etc. that load/run when you first boot ...
(the 'Boot Execute' tab),
when you logon (the 'Logon' tab) and other programs that load
(grouped by labeled tabs) for easy viewing.

It also provides the ability to selectively allows you to stop
(use with care) any program that you don't want to load.
You can undo any changes you have made.

Note: To get additional details on an item in the list you can't
readily identify you may need to highlight the item (right click) and use
the 'Search Online' option to get the details,
especially useful for the more obscure items in the list.

There is also a change in the later version's (v9.39) menu 'Options':
"Autoruns changes the Hide Microsoft Entries to only hide Windows entries"

use MSCONFIG and uncheck CCC and see if it goes away.

Are you coming out of hibernate mode perhaps?

If yes, you may also see that you have unread mail messages, but your
email program is not running! How does it know that?

CCC actually appears as "CLIStart" in MSCONFIG. Per your suggestion I
unchecked it and BINGO, the "1 program running" disappeared from the log on
screen. Thank you. I also used the Autoruns application and CCC/CLIStart did
not appear anywhere. Would be nice if one could right click on the "program
running" alert on the log on screen and the system would tell you what that
program is.
