What is framebuf??? HELP

P

Peter

My computer crashes constantly with error message on blue
screen. Highlights of the message are:
"Aproblem has been detected and Windows has shut down to
prevent damage to your computer. The problem seems to be
caused by the following file: framebuf
..........
The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This
usually indicates problem with the device itself or with
the device driver.....
....
stop:0X000000EA (........................)
"
Does not mention which device. I formated the HDD and
clean installed XP - the same problem happens halfway
through installation. Also copied Framebuf.dll from
another PC-
What devices does Frambuf install, how can they be
repaired/replaced? (I am guessing the device is somewhere
on the motherboard)
Help Please

Thanks
But Where and what is the device?
How can I load the driver during installation if my
computer crashes half way through installation?

Boot into Safe mode and reinstall your video driver

To enter safe mode press the F8 key when windows starts to boot.

I think I have a hardware problem- How can I find the
actual device?

What exact cards are installed on your PC?
Graphics, Sound, USB/Firewire**, Network Card, Printer, etc.
Need Manufacturer and Model (if any MOBO devices list these)
The drivers may be conflicting with another device(s) and
causing this problem. I had heard of a similar problem with
early soundblaster audigy series cards. The boards were
incompatible with some kt133 series chips and mobo bios combos.

It could indeed be your driver. If you know the manufacturer of the board,
you might try their web page for updated drivers. You also might try
opening your case and removing any dust bunnies you find, then making sure
all the cables are well seated in the video section. Just follow the cable
from the speaker jack to the video card.

Not sure if this will help anyone, but I was having the same issue (framebuf/blue screen) on my dell dimension 4400, so I checked out the BIOS and saw that my CPU was set to compatible so I changed back to normal, and voilà everything works.

I saw the same (I must say non-intuitive) solution on another forum which seemed to work for most people. I did the same - restarted, went into BIOS and selected the 'reset to defaults' setting. Haven't seen the problem since. After I logged into WinXP, it notified me of a recent error and asked if I wanted to send an error report. I did, and it took me to a link with more description about the error. Apparently, the framebuf error (at least in my case) was caused by the Video Driver. It said the resolution was to either update my video device driver (I was already on the latest) or to turn off hardware acceleration (mine was at maximum acceleration). I've disabled hardware acceleration - not taking any chances.
