I am in the process of downloading a *.msi file hoping it contains what I am
looking for. Can someone tell me what that extension means and how to use
that file? The actual file name is "ScanSoft RealSpeak.msi." I'm hoping it
contains a certain text-to-speak voice I am looking for. Thanks........

Bobby

MSI is an install file, like and exe. It think it stands for MicroSoft
Installer.

It's just the Windows XP equivalent of a program install file. Before
Windows XP, the file probably would have been named ScanSoft RealSpeak.exe.
I haven't tried that program, but I really like the quality, features, and
ease of use of Scansoft's PaperPort Deluxe software.

You can install MSI files by simply clicking them or selecting install from
right click popup menu.

As with .exe files, double clicking an .msi file will do start the install
too.
