What is a decent and cheap B&W laser with auto duplex?

I would like to replace my Canon i850 with a laser printer. I would
like it to be black and white and have auto duplexing. I don't really
want to spend much and would like to keep the price at less than
$250.00.

I plan on using the auto duplexing feature most of the time. I will
use it almost every time I print anything.

I will not be printing any large, full page graphics, most of the time.
I will be printing a lot of mixed documents. Most of these will have
lots and lots of column and row divisions, and some small logos. I
will also print out a lot of web pages. I will rarely print out just
plain black text.

What speed could I realistically expect with this type of usage from
low cost laser printers? Also, would my usage greatly decrease the
advertised page yields? Btw, I will mostly be printing 5% black pages,
even though most will not be plain black text pages.

I was thinking about getting either a Brother 5150D or a Brother
5250DN. What do you think of these? Do you have any other
suggestions?

Thanks for any help.

I just went through this research. If you want the best value, most
recent design (30 ppm), and don't mind buying another printer in a few
years, then get Brother 5250DN, $235 street. (No point considering
5150D as 5250DN just replaced it and is simply better.) The drum is
nominally rated at 20,000 pages; when it goes, I'd buy a new printer
rather than a new drum.

If longevity and cost of running are prime concerns, then absolutely
the best deal is Kyocera FS-1020D, $310 street. The design is 2-3 years
old (21 ppm). The drum is rated at 100,000 pages and toner costs are
lower too. Kyocera is a big name in UK, Asia, and in institutional
settings but not well known to the masses because they don't sell via
consumer chain stores.

You can do price comparisons at pricegrabber.com, froogle.com,
mysimon.com, etc. Expect far fewer sellers of Kyocera than Brother, but
of course you need only one. :)

My printing needs being very light, I chose the Brother. I found the
best price at AMatterOfFax.com .

For you, I would tend to recommend Kyocera if you don't mind the extra
few dollars. One place that sells it is tristatecamera.com .

However, do a little more online searching for best price from a
well-rated dealer. You just might be able to better these deals.

Good luck.

Well here goes
I have a Samsung ML1510 mono laser, cost £54 UK inc. del. & 1
months warrant. It's a real workhorse I use it alongside the Cano
ip5000, not only do I use it for text I use it for making printe
circuit boards, using the 'toner transfer' paper, the sstuff you iro
on

The toner unit for this is about £60, I refilled it twice and can ge
three toner bottles for about £12, only use 1 toner bottle pe
filling, it's one of the easiest to refill I guess, just a end ca
thay comes off

I would suggest getting one that is refillable, not knowing th
Brother laser I will give you a site link that you can check out an
sure you may find interesting, have a look at -

http://www.refill-toner.co.uk/index.htm You will have to navigate t
find the printer you want
