looking for B&W inkjet printer

I am looking for, but not finding, a plain inkjet printer...
this will be a NEW printer, which uses one black ink cartridge
only, with no provision for color cartridges or color printing,
and just a printer - not a scanner or fax or whatever.

In the past Ive used the HP Deskjet (earliest deskjet)...
also, I had a Canon BJ-1 or BJ-10 which used just one black ink
cartridge... however, when I look today, everything is either
color, which somehow allows B&W printing, or it is a laser toner
type office printer... I dont want laser... inkjet only, please.

Ive also seen several specialized cartridge sets for black
and white photo printing... nice, but really, all I want is plain
black ink in one cartridge and nothing else.

Does anybody know where to buy a simple B&W inkjet printer
such as Ive described ?

Thanks for reading

I know what you are looking for. I also had a Cannon BJxxx printer
some time ago that used only a black cartridge. Most inkjets I have
seen now-a-days have color and black just like you said.

I have right now an HP DeskJet 6980 (a couple years old) that I use
only as a B&W printer. I never replaced the color cartridge and run
it with only the black cartridge (as HP has designed it to work) with
no sacrifice in speed and quality.

Now, my son just bought an HP 4600 or 4800 series printer for $60-$80
range. I am sure that if you don't insert the color cartridge (I
think it was the series 96 cartridges) it will serve as a B&W printer
nicely.

That might be a possible solution for you.

Ah... now thats possible... I have in fact heard this discussed, but
wasnt even considering switch hitter printers_ color/OR/bw capable_
very good suggestion, and, looks like it is all theyre making in the
new printers.

Thanks again

The HP Deskjet D1430 (from 2007), the one I've been complaining
about in another thread here, will work with only a black cartridge,
only a tricolor cartridge, or with both -- it just has to be set
accordingly. If you can find something similar, you can tell it
just to use the black cartridge, and not bother with the tricolor
cartridge at all. Would that be acceptable?

Hi Adam
Ive more or less resigned myself to this kind of answer... as I
phrased it earlier, a "switch hitter printer" capable of either
color or BW... so definitely the D1430 also sounds like a good
possibility here. Thanks for your reply !

Just remember to set the printer driver to "black cartridge only,"
as otherwise it uses a little of the colors to make the black look
better. It may be possible to define several printers that are
actually the same physical printer but with different configurations.
