Laser printers with automatic duplex printing

D

Daniel Prince

Is there a good reliable laser printer with automatic duplex
printing? By automatic duplex printing, I mean that it will print
on both sides of the paper (page one on the front, page two on the
back etc.) without me having to take the stack of paper out of the
printer and put it back in upside down. I have done that with my
Canon S750 and messed up. I ended up having to throw away about 200
sheets of paper with ink on both sides. My brother's Canon MP750
will do this.

Thank you in advance for all replies.

Energy hog, big and heavy. Yours does auto duplex?

120K on a 93 Laserjet? That's all? Keep it, and use it until you can't
anymore. But that's HIGHLY impractical to advise others to do, given
the relative scarcity of that machine, the increasing lack of support
with respect to drivers, its energy use, having to lug it around as you
move, etc.

Somebody looking right now should get something modern, energy
efficient, reliable, and with modern features.

I have a Brother HL-4150CDN and it been working fine with Win7x64.

As long as your not using Windows 8, since Brother hasn't released a
driver that can do duplex yet.

Plenty around.
the increasing lack of support

It does PCL and PostScript, so pretty future proof.
its energy use

Not that bad, I only turn it on when I want it and it does do powersave.
having to lug it around as you move, etc.

Move? Why?
Somebody looking right now should get something modern, energy

And will last 5 minutes.

I do take your point, really, But it is still a viable alternative.

I have a Brother that prints/copies/scans (in color, yet) that has
lasted 40K pages without a hiccup over the last, um, 5? 8? years I've
owned it.

And they support their stuff with superb software and drivers.

It's also a quarter the size of your LJ, which is not unimportant--and,
of course, it does more things inside that smaller space.

It does PCL and PostScript, so pretty future proof.

Well, you'd think--but ever since Adobe gave up making a generic PS
driver for Windows, you're now stuck hoping that Microsoft and/or HP
bother to make an actual driver for newer versions of Windows.

How's the Mac support for that LJ, btw? Linux? Should be pretty good.

Does that LJ do network? I suppose it can, with a JetDirect card.

If you can find one, a good LJ is a wonderful thing to behold.
Repairable, sturdy, and works. It's like your grandfather's old
refrigerator that won't quit, compared to a modern one that you know has
a fixed lifespan of 10 years. But in that 10 years, you'll use far less
energy and the freezer is more useful in the new one than in grampa's.
That's why grampa's is in the basement keeping the beer half a degree
above freezing.
