After upgrading from Windows XP Home to XP Professional, and installing IIS
5.1, for some reason Access won't work now. All my other Office programs
work correctly, and open, but when I try to open Access, the "Windows
Installer" box appears and prepares to install, but then closes and nothing
opens. What could have caused this, and is there a way to fix it? All the
Access icon's are still there...I'm just confused. I need help.

I've tried that through "Add/Remove programs", but it won't let me. Same
thing, the Installer starts up, then nothing happens.

I even tried uninstalling, but the "Windows Installer" program starts up, and
then it just stops.

Put your Office CD in the PC, and when it starts, choose custom for install,
and select ACCESS. See if that will let you fix the problem.

I tried, but it won't let me get past the initialization of startup. The
Installer program opened a message box that says - "Uninstallation of the
patch package is not supported". I'm not sure what that means, but it won't
let me go any further.

Hmmm... I don't have direct knowledge about this problem. Which Office
version do you have? Do you have more than one Office version installed on
the PC?

I suggest that you post your question in one of the windowsxp newsgroups. I
would guess that the readers of those newsgroups have seen this problem
before and can advise you more appropriately about it.

Otherwise, perhaps one of these KB articles might help?

Sorry that I cannot provide a solution at this time.

Ken,

Thanks a lot...the links you sent me helped out immensely. I ended up
having to download and use the Windows Installer Clean Up tool, removed all
of Office 2003 Pro from the registry, update Windows XP Pro, update my
version of Windows Installer (I had 3.0, and updated to 3.1), insert my
Office 2003 disk and install, then uninstall, then re-install...then get SP2
for Office. Whew!!! But, thanks to you and the links you sent me, I finally
was able to get Access to work. I really appreciate the help and effort you
put into this, and I thank you very much.

I'm glad the articles were useful... I'll keep this list for future
reference. Thanks for letting us know what worked for you.
