Hello

I think the best thing to do it just say what I saw and hope that some one
out there has seen this or can offer some suggestion.

I was called out to a multi national company dirrectors house in the center
of london yesterday. Guy is pretty important, he happens to be quite a nice
chap and even thou he was by me all the while, I felt able to work on his
laptop with easy.

[The Error]
You open IE'6, sp2, sp2 is installed on the xp machine (pro).
It then comes up with window labeled MS visual c++ windows, this application
has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way'please speak to the
application support team or what ever.

Now I spent a good long while trying to fix this, I read various threads
detailing this error and I did find a work around to this error with this fix.

Disable third party plug in, tool options etc.

Now I doug deeper and found that the following ie 6 plug in, once removed or
disabled removed the reported visual c++ error.

Google toolbar helper.

So there I am sitting in this guys house and I think im the nuts, I think
ive fixed it and ever thing is over and I will have that coke cola now.
Wrong..

There remains a further problem which is this.

You right click desktop, customize desktop, place a proper Ie6 icon on the
desktop (much like my computer and my docuements etc)

When you try to open the IE6 icon it says.

What program you like to open

file:
with

list of programs ..

If you pick Ie6 it just goes round and round.

Does any one have any idea.

What could have caused this given that the machine is running anti virus,
adware, as I was there they were uptodate although it is possible he quickly
updated them, the user is quite nifty with technology.

My personal opinon is that it might be some thing to do with AOL if which he
has 9.0, 9.0b, 9.0c maybe intergration some were has caused this.

I feel this kind of error has to be down to a virus, I would place my money
on this although I am confident with his anti virus, it updates on auto so
its difficult to mess up by the client.

ANY INPUT.....HELP

My guess is that IE has become somehow damaged, or that you're somehow
mishandling a shortcut. Try looking for IEXPLORE.EXE in "program files /
internet explorer" folder on the system disk. Than make a shortcut to it on
the desktop, and try running it.

If that doesn't work, try repairing the IE6 installation through add remove
programs, using the "repair" option.
