visual c++ runtime error triggered by IE6

Hi all:

I hope someone can help me with this aggravating problem. About a week ago,
Internet explorer stopped working for me. Whenever I start IE6, I get an
error message: "runtime error, this application has requested the runtime to
terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support
team for more information" The top of the error box reads "visual c++".

I checked out the Microsoft knowledge base and have tried a few things:
1. Delete the windows/temp folder (I had to boot in safe mode to do that)
2. Install, then uninstall AOL.
3. Refomated my C drive, then reinstall a disk image from 2 weeks earlier
(when I did not have the problem). Interestingly, right after I reinstall
the disk image and the computer boots up, IE6 will work ONCE, then I get the
same error message the next time I run IE6. I can get Opera to run as the
browser. Outlook works fine.
4. Norton antivirus (with latest definitions) found no viruses.
5. All my other applications seem to work OK.

Thanks

Hi,
The Google toolbar has been causing the C++ Runtime error recently. Try
uninstalling the Google toolbar from Control Panel> add/remove programs. You
may be able to reinstall it or you may have to wait for a newer version.

Other possibilities...
If running XP SP2, try IE> Tools> Manage add-ons. Disable add-ons to see if
one of them is the culprit. If not using SP2, try one of these free
programs:
ToolbarCop: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/toolbarcop.htm
BHODemon 2.0: http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm

Another program, possibly malware, might be causing this. See these sites
