What's the current state of affairs with WGA Notifications?

How does one uninstall the current version?

What's the current version's associate KB article number?

What are the name(s) of the .dll file(s) involved?

What Registry entries are associated with it?

Any link(s) ?

Thank you.

Type "Windows Genuine Advantage" into Google. Lots of information there.
Wikipedia has an article on the subject.

Q. "What's the current state of affairs with WGA Notifications?"

A. Users running a "genuine version" of Windows XP do not get WGA notifications.
Users getting WGA notifications should consider getting genuine ASAP.

What's the current state of affairs with WGA Notifications?
Still pissing people off.
How does one uninstall the current version?
One doesn't. Microsoft has all the rights under its EULA to demand you keep
this running so they can control you and your computer.
What's the current version's associate KB article number?
No idea.
What are the name(s) of the .dll file(s) involved?
msspyware.dll, mswerewatchingu.dll, msnowweownyou.dll
What Registry entries are associated with it?
Too many to get into here.
Any link(s) ?

WGA is the best thing that has happened for Linux in a while.

I'm not talking about the "notifications", I'm asking about the WGA
Notifications software itself - but thanks anyway.

I want to know "what's up" with it. And how to remove it if one has
inadvently installed it. Most of the articles online etc. are from June ..
any changes since, news etc. etc. ?? Will the anti-spyware / anti-trojan
software vendors be providing ways to remove it and so on. ??

as annoying as it is, removal also removes your ability to get
updates and etc..

And your proof of that is?

Go to http://microscum.kurttrail.com/postsp2/

There is a list of ALL the security updates for WinXP with links to
download them directly from MS's download servers.

All removing the WGA-BS does is make it so you can't download and
install updates through Microsoft/Windows Update, which just adds more
things to can and will wrong with the patchwork-quilting process anyway.

Did you have a nice holiday - were you suffering an illness - did you get
locked up for something you said - get fed up with newsgroups. Or is it
something too embarrassing to mention?
Good to hear from you, whatever.

Removing WGAN (notifications) does not have any impact on your ability
to get automatic or manual updates from Windows Update. Removing WGA
would, but removing WGAN doesn't impact anything as far as updates are
concerned.

Yet, though I've read in the press where MS spokespeople threaten that
it will be required in the not to distant future.

And WGAN and WGA are both flawed technologies. Too many false postives.

And yeah, I know you are a fanboy that believes that there are no false
postives, so there is no need for you to reply that you never seen one.
I wouldn't believe you anyway.

Even if MS try to make that a requirement there could be ways around
it. For example I installed it on one of my computers when it was
first released, but my firewall "Sunbelt Kerio"has blocked it from
ever contacting Microsoft. Other ways that immediately come to mind
are reverting to OS/2 Warp, Windows 2000 or to a UNIX System.

No, I believe there are false positives, but I don't believe there are
as many as the media or some in this group report. Almost ever case I've
seen posted in this group has been a result of a pirated copy, only one
or two in the last month as been what I would consider a false positive.

LOL! Even accepting what you consider to be "one or two" false
positives a month being reported in this group, consider that maybe
..0001% of Windows users even know about this group. Then do the math.

That is way too many people being screwed in my book. I'm sure you book
doesn't give a sh*t about people getting screwed by WGA.

MS is scum, and seems to hate its paying customers.
